Its the gov and fuel distillers who are the problem.
Aust, has the largest oil reserves bar none, and more than enough refineries but DO not use either as they should.
Oil if refined in Aust would work out to be around $8.43 per barrelbut our gov.would not get much from that so they allow 35%to be imported fron o/seas and go by the indoneasian barrel price atidy little profit for both only poor muggins has to pay the price. eusa_wall.gif eusa_wall.gif

The mining boom is using tons of the stuff. As is the transport of said ore etc. Both India and China are consuming diesel at a rapid rate. All these factors add up to a huge supply and demand issue. Plus, consider the added costs of refining due to various govs worldwide demanding lower sulphur etc. The old days of diesel being half the cost of other fuels are gone I'm afraid

Its cheap compared with Europe where the average price of diesel is about $2 - $2.10 aust..
Unleaded in Europe can be as much as 20c more or 10c cheaper than diesel depending on which country you're in.

Then in the US its only around 0.94 aust per litre..
Unleaded is about 10c cheaper there but I think thats because they nicked all the oil from Iraq icon_wink.gif

I too am surprised. I always assumed that diesel was crude oil put through a tea strainer anyway. icon_wink.gif Must be supply and demand. What with all these diesel passenger cars coming onto the market

We all know that we are being robbed blind everytime we fill up with unleaded but why is diesel nearly twenty cents a litre dearer than unleaded?
