Hahaha! I actually hold the RSPCA in contempt - had a couple of not very nice experiences when trying to get them to help maltreated animals in the past - and their kill policy has skyrocketed over recent years necessitating organisations like DABS, Petrescue, and the like...
The lots of bow wows through my place in the past 6 months were the load of pups that Trouble the Labrador had... and every single one of those pups found a totally forever home. It helped that we could show people how big their daddy was and told them to expect the pup to approach that size when fully grown...
Princess is adorable (if a bit lacking in any sort of manners). She looks to be a cross between something reasonably large, and a whippet. she weighs 17.5 kilos and is approximately 6 months old. She stands as tall as Trouble, who is actually on the smaller size for a Labrador - Trouble also weighs around 30 kgs - so Princess is a lean build, but she ain't underfed skinny.
She doesn't travel well on a full tummy either... errr!
So far, she has slotted in perfectly with my dogs, and Trouble is loving having an energetic playmate to tear around with. Princess has already been down to the off-leash dog park (on lead though, as she has no recall due to not knowing her name properly yet). She had a Puppacino at Cafe Bones, and loved all of the pats and cuddles from lots of people there, and handled all of the strange dogs coming up and giving her the once over like a true pro...
The off leash park has obedience lessons on Sundays, so we will go down there again today and see if we can slot her in and get her some obedience training - sit, drop, stay, etc...
I'm sure she was a Christmas present puppy, and was an outside dog, as she had never encountered a stereo speaker or TV from the reactions she gave to those... it was very funny... but she settled into sleeping on my bed with my other girls just fine... *grin*
We had one piddle inside last night, but she went outside this morning to do something a little more substantial (thank god!)

Post subject: I'm going to be a foster mummy!
Organisation name: DABS
Issue type: Compliment
I have a neighbour who has been fostering a dog for DABS (Domestic Animal Birth-control Society), and I thought it was a great thing to be doing, so I've stuck my hand up to foster a dog myself.
This morning I go to pick up my new (temporay) friend...
Her name is Princess, and they think she is a Ridgeback cross. She is approximately 6 months old, and is not a small dog by any reckoning... *grin*
DABS pays all medical costs via a network of vets who volunteer services at extremely reduced rates - all I have to supply is a loving home and food... pretty cool setup, huh?
There are so many larger breed dogs who are destroyed because the pounds just do not have room for them, and not enough foster carers to take them on.
I'm betting that Princess was really cute around Christmas time, but now she is pushing the 20kg mark at 6 months old, someone realised that she was maybe too big to be "fun" anymore. She was apparently found roaming the street, no collar or microchip - and no-one has come forward to claim her... I'd be frantic if one of my babies went missing... so I can't understand how people can do this... grrr!
Anyways - Princess is getting a new chance now to find a forever home with people who will love her exactly how she is - big, boisterous, and friendly to a fault... lol!
