On 23/4/08 my dog who was 17 was dying of old age complaints and i knew the end was near and that he was going to have to be put to sleep as he was starting to get distress.I couldn/t move him and i had no transport at all. So i rung my local Vet Coast Animal Health at Wyong they said that they could not come out and i would have to take him there,i explained the situation and circumstances that i was in but they still said there was nothing they could do.So i then rung there Lakehaven clinic and told them the same thing how my dog was dying i had no car they then put me on hold for 15mins to ring the Wyong clinic then when they did get back to me they said the same thing.

By this stage i was getting very upset and stressed myself. So then i rung another vet that i pulled out of the phone book that i didn/t even know and she came around no trouble at all and the job was done.I just want everyone to know that when the chips are down Coast Animal Health will not be there for you,i was just around the block a stones throw away, and it was not even late it was just before 5 pm and there was nothing they could do yeah right. You go to there web site and it says that they are committed to treating your pets with compassionate hearts and there Housecalls service it reads Servicing the whole of the Central Coast Available 7 days (housecalls only available Monday thru to Friday).

And the sad part is they were my dogs vet for about 4 years they were all right taking the money then. And it would have been nice just to get a phone call the next day to see how you got on but nothing i just hope no one else has to go through what i went through it was just one of the most horrible and stressing times that i never want to experience again.Coast Animal Health i think you are only there for the money because your so called compassionate hearts dont exist.Shame Coast Animal Health Shame.

That's a really upsetting story motley69 & I'm sorry you had such uncaring vets at the time you needed them most. You are to be commended in caring for your pet enough to ring around & find a vet who would put your poor dog out of his misery.

There are ordinary vets & then there are truly caring vets (as you have unfortunately found out) icon_sad.gif
Should you ever have another pet, perhaps you will take your business to the vet whom you called (out of the phone book) & give "Coast Animal Health" a miss.

I remember the early morning our beloved Jenna (14) died. She had been fitting, basically stop, for about an hour and in her concious moments was disoriented, exhausted and walking into walls and furniture. She was a big dog and to try and restrain her was difficult. Rang the vet emergency after hours number. Her vet knew she had cancer, had had a couple of fits in the last 6 months and most likely it was due to her cancer. Yet he said it sounded like a stroke, despite me reminding him of all of the above and the animals clear distress, and then said there wasn't a lot he could do. Eventually got him to meet us at the surgery half an hour away. Rather impatiently waited for us to make the decision we had to make and put her to sleep. I understand noone likes being called out at 4am, but this really was necessary. I assure you that for the 15-20 mins we were with him, he was paid quite well. He never even said he was sorry that we had lost her. Got us to pay on Visa on the way out.

It's amazing how uncaring some vets can be and yet others go above and beyond.

We had a situation a few years ago now when our cat had kittens (planned, we wanted to have a litter so we could have a cat from our much loved female and male and both were desexed as soon as the litter was 6 weeks old) One of the kittens had a door fall on top of it and it was very badly injured. My kids were hysterical especially my son who blamed himself but it was just a tragic accident.

We rushed it to the closest vet surgery despite avoiding this surgery in the past as it was known to be very expensive and even though they were extremely busy they took us right in and looked at the kitten straight away. Sadly she didn't make it but the vet came out and had it all wrapped in a blanket and spent about 15 mins with us and explained it had suffered internal blood loss and it was in no way my son's fault and really reaussured him. She then put it in a small box for us to bury and when I went to pay her she said there was no charge. The next morning she rang to see if my son was ok. I now use this surgery for all our cats and the service is just superb.

I am really sorry your local vet let you down at such a sad time.

How does a cat 'plan' a pregnancy? Who is 'we'? and was the cat consulted on the pregnancy and the desexing?
