Derat... I have often wondered why you cut and paste a comment from a post and then provide a smart alec answer to it!
Not being smart... just a simple question. |

'I know my job, my exemptions and my powers'
Then why haven't you stated where it is in leg'n that allows you to drive whilst using these devices? That would be helpful in this discussion, cause I can't find it. |

Just been checking out the "NSW Road Rules 2008" Clauses 299 and 300 which relate to use of TV receivers/visual display units and mobile phones respectively. In Clause 299 it states that a VDU can be used if it is a "driver's aid" such as a GPS. Now, in Clause 300 it states that operating any function of a mobile phone is an offence.
So my mobile phone has a GPS which is in itself is a VDU. Contradictory yes. I'd love to pulled over using my mobile phone's GPS, be booked and give the poor magistrate grief when I elect to take the matter to court. |

The level of stupidity and plain misrepresentation of some posters misconstruing, and using past comments out of context is no longer surprising.
.
It's rather boring.
.
Bottom line, Police have exemptions for certain things, some choose to use them (I rarely use the mobile while driving at work[uless it IS a genuine work call]), as a mobile phone conversation (as is an animated conversation with a passenger) is far more distracting than using any of the devices in my Police vehicle that help me do my job.
.
I know my job, my exemptions and my powers (snide superhero references aside)
.
Those that don't like it, can stop reliving past experiences and alleged service, stop being armchair experts, and join up. Or shut up. |

"Derat, let's just hope that if someone looks a little bit suss outside your house, that you will be lucky enough to have an assertive, street-smart cop, like Fate, intervene before a crime is commited."
and in the meantime hope like hell that a friend, relative or my old mother in law forget to shave when visiting.... they are likely to be shot on site for suspicion of being a vandal or drug dealer based on thier clothes or skin colour. |

Police do attend driver training however this training doesn't exonerate them from the traffic act in relation to driving without due care & attention, it simply improves their level of experience.
I was supplying an possible answer to Igins's query in relation to why the officer may have been using the phone & had that officer had an accident she would have had to explain her usage of the phone.
& who's sucking up who 'assertive, street-smart cop'
Dosty display your foolishness elsewhere, at least you're consistant, usual rubbish |

This thread has turned into a public display of foolishness. Thing, it isn't cool to suck up to derat, neither is it to start off by saying Police driving training enables them to multi-task, then shooting yourself in the foot by claiming Police officers are not driving with due care and responsbility when using their MDT's. Which is it? Superior skills obtained by intensive training or smooching up to derat?
Derat, let's just hope that if someone looks a little bit suss outside your house, that you will be lucky enough to have an assertive, street-smart cop, like Fate, intervene before a crime is commited. |
