Well, well. After three other overpaid thugs were accused (yes only accused at this point) of an assault on a female. Along came the report of this upstanding citizen Lockyer tackling a night club manager. Of course there was the inevitable denial and spin from the liar (whoops Lockyer) about it happening, some inconclusive video. Misplaced support from a moronic Qld POlice MInister and of course the supporters of the thugs (whoops Rugby League team). Seems someone wisely let the liar dig his hole, and now the footage (and sudden memory recall) that shows he DID tackle the bloke. The point now is not whether he had ANY justification whatsoever (doubtful) in tackling the guy, the point now is he lied about it. There must have been others from the Broncos with him that new the truth. Many may ask why he hasn't faced any investigation or anything (I don't really care if there is). The fact is many incidents like this happen on a regular basis at licensed premises, like pubs/clubs/hotels, and unless someone is hurt they don't get reported.
.
One would think now that Broncos management will be eating their words, and Bennett yet again needs to pull his head in.
.
I wouldn't care if it was Brisbane, or any other team. The fact remains there are too many overpaid louts running around with sponsorship on them acting in less than a savoury manner.
.
Lockyer, his team mate thugs, the Bulldogs, and all the other 'less than desirables' running around in the NRL are just part of the reason I switched off long ago. |

It is interesting to note that when a high profile rugby league player is caught doing the wrong thing, the whole game is brought into disrepute. When a high profile AFL player does the same thing, it is just his reputation which is tarnished, not the game of AFL.
Actors and entertainers aren't angels either. We don't see people criticising the film or music industry en masse because of someone's poor behaviour in public. |

You say you've switched off - but from your post, it appears they have your undivided attention... |

Only from the coverage I see on the general news on tv and in print media. They certainly do not have my 'undivided attention'. It just sickens me when moronic politicians blindly make stupid sweeping statements (particularly a POlice Minister). I would rather none of the rubbish any of these morons (AFL, NRL, actors etc. etc.) get up to was publicised. In too many cases it hinders proper investigations and gives the pariahs (whoops solicitors) excuses to claim some sort of bias or similar.
.
vp1959. As to actors and entertainers, they generally aren't particularly marketed as some sort of role models to children and youth, nor do they generally run around with sponsors plastered across their clothing. Yes actors, entertainers etc. in differing degrees are sometimes held up as some sort of 'example', and no doubt many do have some sort of sponsorship or endorsement deals, generally though if they slip up, the sponsors etc. drop them. They also generally aren't showing up at schools or local sports grounds or the like interacting closely with youngsters and being held up as some sort of good example.
.
Unlike NRL, AFL and soccer players and the like. As has been continually demonstrated, there are far too many drunk lying thugs involved in todays sport. |

"Unlike NRL, AFL and soccer players and the like. As has been continually demonstrated, there are far too many drunk lying thugs involved in todays sport."
I would suggest their are too many drunk lying thugs in the general community, and it would be naive to not think that the same percentage of sportspeople would fit into this category.
Who made the rule that sportspeople are role models, for crying out loud, generally the only thing most of them can do is play sport and is that the role model we want for our children, I certainly don't.
Just because they are sportspeople does not mean that they dont make the same mistakes as the rest of the community and when they do they should be treated just the same as the rest of the community. Let the law deal with it.
Most of the rubbish is just media hype, and I must admit, when it comes on the news, my care factor is zero. There are a lot more serious crimes that never get reported.
The day a sports star becomes my role model, I think I will book myself into a mental asylum. |

Yep certainly are more serious crimes daily that the media don't report. My points are that media reporting and speculation on these people often leads to difficult investigations, and at times failed prosecutions. I certainly don't hold any of them as role models. But many sections of the community do. |
