Post subject: Replacement battery for watch
Organisation name: Westfield at Airport West
Issue type: Complaint

Hi everyone,

The other day I needed a replacement battery for my watch. I went to Westfield, Airport West, Melbourne.
In the middle of their major aisle, there is a stall. This stall deals with watch repairing/locksmith type work.

A young cocky blonde girl 20-something was serving. I noticed an elderly Euro couple next to me asked her how much it would cost to fit a new battery in a watch. She quoted them a whopping $16.95 & they accepted without question. I thought right at that moment that was a rip off. She gave them a ticket, got their phone number (they read out their home phone - why do shops do that??), then told them to come back in 15 mins.

When it was my turn, I asked her how much to fit a new battery in my watch, the blonde quoted the same price $16.95. I said to her that I'll think about it & might come back.

Planning to wander into jewellery shops to enquire further, conveniently there's a Zamels jewellery store exactly diagonal behind this stall. I asked the lady in there how much they charge. You know what? She quoted me only $9.95!!! I thought that sounded much more reasonable & gave her the job to replace the battery.

When I gave her my money for the job, I made a comment to her that the young girl in the stall just at the shop entrance was charging a very hefty $16.95. The sales lady said to me 'That's disgusting. I've also had other customers tell me the blonde charges that rip off price too'.

It certainly pays to shop around, 'cos in this instance I saved myself $7!!!

Well she doesn't sell hundreds of dollars+ in Jewelery a day to make up the difference, does she? I know, who cares, its your money. Guess it shows it pays to shop around.

you can buy any battery for every watch out there from any chemist for 2.95 or there about and put it in your watch in 1 minute, I do it all the time for all the watches in my family, so 9.95 is also a bit much but that's the going rate if you want someone to do for you. as for asking my phone number eusa_naughty.gif well!!!! that's another story.

Hi view 2008 The cheapest way to replace a watch battery is to go to one of those cheap shops
(crazy clarks in Queensland here) and get a whole card full for about $2.00, there is sure to be one to fit, prise the back off your watch, and replace it your self. eusa_clap.gif

"The sales lady said to me 'That's disgusting. I've also had other customers tell me the blonde charges that rip off price too'. "

One hopes the service the lady was referring to was in regards to the supply of batteries for watches. eusa_snooty.gif

I have to wonder why you consider the person's hair colour is relevant eusa_think.gif

"...was charging a very hefty $16.95." <== was something I never thought I would read. eusa_think.gif When $16.95 is considered 'very hefty', I will reconsider my need to obtain the time immediately.
