They did the same thing to me, they had gave me a bad mark against my credit due to their bad administration team so I refused to pay the debit, it has now come off my credit report

Yes, Danny_b you are right.

The first guy had no interest in sending my call to anyone else, just wanted to be nasty and rude. Next time I'll know to ask for the credit/collections department right away and not speak to a customer service call centre rep. Thanks for your help!

That's fantastic. They can probably also tell that a new forwarding address wasn't taken.

Often it's just a case of speaking to the right person. Unfortunately sometimes even the staff in their general call centre don't know who the right person is.

Thanks Danny_b.

The first time that I called Origin I got no-where and told that "the debt was sold" and that there is nothing they can do. I rang again and got put through to the 'Credit Department'. She said that sometimes theres a computer glitch or human error and this happens. She said that she could see that I was a good payer and was happy to re-instate the write-off and thereby call off the debt collection agency and negative credit rating. I have paid the original invoice (not including any penalty fees) and have been told that doing so the problem will be all fixed up by Monday.

It's likely that the debt collection agency has tracked you down directly rather than Origin passing on your details.

I'd call Origin and try and speak with their arrears department. Surely it would be standard procedure to get a new mailing address when they disconnect someone moving house, and they should be able to see on their system that they didn't change it.

I went through some major life changes and forgot. I didn't have time to sit around the house and see if all my bills had arrived, if they came I paid them.

I am wondering why you did not call Origin in, say, Feb last year to find out where the final bill was?

Post subject: Avoid Origin Energy!
Organisation name: Origin Energy
Issue type: Complaint

I called Origin Energy in January 2008 to cancel my electricity and move house. A year later I receive a debt collection notice. I never saw the final invoice because they failed to send it to my new address. I contacted them via email on 23/12/08 and are awaiting their response. How come they can't send me the final invoice to the provided address yet they can register a black mark against my name and send a debt collection notice to the said address?

Does anyone have any advice about how I can fix this situation?
