sorry about the breach of forum rules. i hope it is okay to say it this way:

you could do an internet search on e-passes and then you will find providers like rta, roam etc. there are heaps of them. from there you will get links to set up an e-pass where you will only be charged 1.50 to set up the account and then whatever tolls you incur. with an e-pass it is all electronic. i.e. there is no tag to attach to your windscreen.

When i was at the rta last week i overheard a customer next to me asking the customer service officer for information about using the harbour bridge which is now cashless. the customer said he goes to sydney twice a year and doesnt use any other toll roads. the cso informed the customer that he could purchase an etag which would cost him $80 (of which $40 is refundable when the tag is eventually returned), or he could get a short term pass where he buys a tag for 1 week. i was waiting for the cso to also say that he could purchase a e pass over the internet for $1.50 and that the toll would then be charged to his nominated credit card.

when i realised that the cso was going to hit the customer for the $80 tag and not even mention e-passes i butted in and said to the man that he could go online and buy a pass for either 14 or 30 days -depending which provider he used - and it would only cost $1.50 to open the account plus the relevant toll charge. I was annoyed to think that customers are not being told of all their options - only the options that make the most money for the rta.
