Taxi drivers were always legally exempt from wearing seatbelts in Queensland until recently when the legislation was ammended. QLD cabbies are now only exempt from wearing belts when they have passengers on board. This is beacause it was becoming common practice for thugs and robbers to use driver seatbelts to constrain or strangle drivers.
