Post subject: Bogus toll payment notice!
Organisation name: SWR Operations Pty Limited
Issue type: Complaint

I don't know if I'm being paranoid, but I(or more accurately, my sister) received two "final toll notices" from the toll operator, SWR Operations Pty Ltd, each for $22.75, stating that her car was recorded using the M4 Western Motorway (in both directions) without paying the toll- at a time when neither she (nor her car) was anywhere near the motorway. There are 3 eyewitnesses, including myself, to testify to this- that at the time stated on the notice, she was in a house in Parramatta, with her car parked safely on the front lawn. She did not go anywhere that night. So unless some car-thieving gnome is driving her car around, it's clearly a bogus notice!

To make it even more suspicious, the recorded times were exactly one hour apart (exactly, as in to the minute). Coincidence? I think not. Sounds like a scam to me.

I imagine that many people wouldn't remember where they were at a particular time on a certain day months ago- and some unfortunate souls may actually fall for this and pay!

Ask them for a copy of the photographic evidence they used to prove the car drove through without paying...

That's what I was gonig to say. If they can not prove it, then you shoud not have to pay it.

You could also call the toll operators directly, find their number and ask them if this is legit.

I would also ask to see the photograph. I know of other examples where toll operators/speed camera fine issues etc have been unable to read the plated properly so they send the fine to what they think is the rego and hope that they get it right! This happened to my father in law who was issued a fine when he was in another state. Turns out the plate on the vehicle was obscured and they were missing a number so they made it up and it happened to be his plate it then matched to.

Tweettee have seen that before too. Friend had an eftpos receipt and credit card details that she was nearly 50K away shopping within 5 minutes of the time where the supposed offence occured - plus the car was a station wagon and she had a sedan (same Brand of car Magna-this was with a picture no. plate slightly obscured)
