I, like the other 95% have, voted a big NO to this.

Why should the pollies get a payrise when they are asking everyone else to hold back on payrises at their job?

They will not say it is a payrise, it is an increase in some allowance.. But they get it and can keep it if they want.. THAT IS A PAYRISE no matter how you look at it.

For the rest of us there is a requirement to increase our productivity. Why not pollies?

Maybe we should have fewer of them with larger electorates?

Naturally their expenses should be made public so we can see that these allowances are being spent appropriately.

I know one polly whose daughter attended uni full time ,lives in his govt paid flat ,and drives his govt car .

As he lives 65ks distance from the city he can claim for the flat which he hardly uses, and she is down as office staff so is entitled to drive car and get free petrol. icon_evil.gif

How about their recent $90 a week rise in their electoral allowance which seemingly it has come out they do not have to account for but but at the end of the tax year anything left is to be declared as taxable income eusa_naughty.gif

Most say this is just a back door pay rise and in light of the pitiful rise they gave ONLY to single pensioners - and nothing at all to married pensioners - don't be fooled by the $5.07 rise in their supplements this is built in and nothing to do with the base pension.
Also they have no built in lever to raise their base pension which will stand at $237.95 a week until someone does shout a bit.

I am expecting it just may be the gay and lesbian couples who from July 1st will be treated the same as married couples for the Agent Pension and also Disability where they will all be paid each $80 a week less or $160 a couple for living together in spite of the fact that their roof costs are paid outside the base pension but have not be adjusted for yonks so have given the pensioners a big problem and they get concessions for their power etc and double the pharmaceutical benefits allowance as some bureaucrat decreed that two do not get as sick as one.eusa_wall.gif

Seeing that it is recognised that a companion animal is beneficial to our health - maybe they should give an allowance for pet food and veterinary expenses to pensioners as this may well reduce their dependence on hospital and nursing home beds.
