Post subject: The welfare budget is stretched even more
Organisation name: na
Issue type: Comment

I was very disappointed in the Budget and the Pension Review as they gave the single pensioners only $30 a week rise and nothing for the married ones. They raised the supplements but they would have gone up anyway $2.49 for singles and $5.07 per married person or gay person part of couple.

They tell us that we have to look forward to 1 million out of work so the budget will be stretched so can afford no further rises for the pensioners or disabled etc. Nor for the unemployed.

But at the same time they are not stopping the incoming of now up to 700 aliens in 15 boats this year alone encouraged by the softening by Rudd of previous governments policies. where they used to turn back the boats before they reached Australian waters and had stopped the people smuggling.

This too will not only stretch the welfare budget as they give these aliens $360 a week each + $100 store credits on arrival according to morning show recently but once on Aussie soil will also add to the push up on rents and pressure on housing as we already have waiting lists for public housing and every time another refugee comes in an Australian family living in a car with their kids get pushed back on the waiting list.

Someone said that if it was not for the fact that big business wants more consumers here and political parties want more voters they would give their 12 months notice and stop taking refugees under the 1951 Convention and only take in those we need as we need and after we are back on course with plenty of jobs and housing etc and able to look after our own elderly and disabled citizens.

Again - similar to the tribunal on corporate welfare that sets up MPs salaries as well as top public servants and Judges.
A Tribunal for appeals after rejection by DIMI was set up.
It then takes over and just lets them in anyway.
Makes nonsense to me of having UN rules for refugees etc.

Who set up this tribunal and why - anyone know?

Just gets me mad that old and disabled folk must go without and kids live in cars etc and we have money for overseas and aliens but none for our own. eusa_wall.gif
