On Friday 13 November my husband was driving from Brisbane to Bundaberg to help me with a my work. 10 minutes out of Childers on the Bruce Highway he was hit by a truck from Mac's Freightline. The truck dod NOT stop. My husband attempted to get the truck's attention, and this did not work.
He decided to drive to my home and together we went to the Bundaberg Police station to place a report. My husband was unaware that there is a police station in Childers. He was able to give the police the rego off the truck.
We attempted to contact the truck company on Friday night, Saturday, Sunday and were finally able to reach the owner on Monday at 7:45am. he mumbled something about his high insurance excess and that he would call me back after speaking with the driver. He did not ring so I called him in teh afternoon after we had taken the car to the panel beaters. The quote was for 3000.00 damages to the car.
When I spoke to the owner he passed the phone to the driver who screamed at me and called me a liar and an idiot. He was EXTREMELY RUDE and NASTY. He said that he didn't hit the car, no damage on his truck and that I was full of @#@#@#. Then he hung up.
So my husband is without a car, he missed a day of work, he had to catch the train back to Brisbane, and will have no car for two weeks. There was no remorse from the driver, and the owner would not speak to me.
Truckies! Slow down. You drive so close to cars, you drive too fast. I know that you have a job to do and you are in a hurry but people are dieing! My husband was one of the lucky ones. He is still alive! Show some care on the roads. Show some remorse when you hit people!
Mac's Freightline obviously hires rude liars, as this man was both. |

Hi Rhonddas, trucks are so large and heavey that at times they may not know they have hit something.
Out north of Mount Isa where we used to go camping, the trucks up there may hit a cow on the road and not even know it. Same with a truck verses car. |

what I dont like is the attitude of the truck company and the driver. they were rude and nasty to say the least. If I had hit someone and didnt know or stop, I would be devastated to say the least if they called to tell me. But hey, I have a conscience and give a darn about people.
They didn't even say sorry. I got screamed at by a moron. He did it and yet I made it all up.
the company is up by Townsville which is too far to drive for me and I am in the middle of wedding season, so I cant go even if I wanted to. My hubby has no car now. And these morons acted like "oh well, too bad." My hubby was so upset about it all that he was unable to even talk to the jerk on the phone. |

I agree with you on the attitude of the driver and his boss.
I hope things work out in the end. |

Do you have insurance? If so, this is where your insurance company should come into play. You have the rego details as well as the truck's owner contact details - pass it all over to your insurance co and let them do the work - that's what you pay them for, after all! |
