Post subject: Aussies being bagged on TYT because of the KFC cricket ad

Just watched, "The Young Turks" on YouTube having a go at the KFC ad involving "Mick" & a group of West Indian supporters. Talk about ill in formed. For a start they described them as "African Americans" & then proceeded to play the race card indicating that all it takes to quieten them down is some fried chicken. They appear to only have one perspective & little or no understanding of what goes on at the cricket. For mine, it wouldn't matter what team it was & I could probably single out the "Barmy Army" & nothing would have been said. I don't for one minute think that the people who put the ad together had any idea that it would be seen as having racial overtones. Any thoughts on the subject?

I just assumed the ad was depicting a fan from one team surrounded by a bunch of fans from the opposing team. Akward. Didn't even occur to me that their colour was a factor.

Ridiculous.

Someone probably got paid squillions to come up with this 'possible' racial content thus allowing KFC to easily pull the ad claiming they didn't want to offend blah blah whilst receiving mega world wide media & internet coverage & advertising icon_wink.gif

If I was in advertising these days I'd be trying to angle adverts to cause controversy with an easy out for the client thus receiving world wide attention...

But when you put this in context - Australia is very much being perceived as racist overseas. Is this a case of getting on the bandwagon?

We have problems in USA, India and now japan over whaling.

Just to throw it out there - are we taking over the Brit's as the wingers. Do we honestly think we have Utopia? (personally yes)

(This has been placed as a hypothetical that was put to me today - I do not hold this view BUT it did make me think how the rest of the world perceives us)
