There are two windscreen suppliers in town, and they are as bad as each other. Groceries at our supermarket are pretty much on a par with prices in Perth. Unleaded petrol is about 30 cents a litre more than the cheapest in Perth, diesel is about 28 cents more and LPG is a whopping 45 cents more - mind you only one of the three fuel outlets in town sells LPG. Quite often fuel is cheaper 1000km further north of us - work that one out! Then we have the place that does renovations and building work - about 3 years ago I wanted a new vanity for the bathroom, just one of those ones that you buy in the plumbing shop for about $300. The price I got was $1600.

I don't know where you live kiwi, but I bet because you're so far from anywhere the price of milk and bread etc are also much higher, and what about the price of petrol where you live? everybody charge what they like, this is how it is, except in a bigger place or a place which is closer to a bigger place there's competition so the prices stay low, wheres at your place there's no competition.

bc53 - that is exactly what I have had a gutful of. Charging what they like, because some people will pay without question. I'm sick of the money-hungry people here blatantly ripping everyone off.
We could get it freighted up ourselves but, as far as I am aware, there are regulations in force in WA that require persons who install windscreens to be licensed.
As a matter of principle we are going to Port Hedland on Friday next week. It will cost us about $200 for fuel, but we can do a bit of shopping while we are there. A nice day trip lol.
I did email the Novus head office in Perth on Wednesday morning regarding the exhorbitant price their agent charges. No reply yet.

Maybe they charge what they want because you're soooo far from everywhere, so if you want to "save" money you'll have to travel 2400K return trip to Perth or 900K return to Port Hedland, take your pick.

Curiosity got the better of me this morning. I am nearly 1200km north of Perth, and rang a windscreen place in Port Hedland which is another 450km north of me. The price to supply and fit the windscreen is $385. Something doesn't add up here.

I rang our local windscreen outfit today, who is an agent for Novus windscreens. Quote for a windscreen to be supplied and fitted to our vehicle is $650. I then rang another windscreen outfit in Perth and their price to supply and fit is $310. It would not cost anywhere near $340 for freight. Another case someone making plenty of money out of the "freight costs" excuse.
