Some of these recruitment agencies are absolutely disgusting in the way they treat people. Speaking of Manpower I had an awful experience with their Melbourne CBD office back in late 2000. To cut a long story short I applied for a "Job" through them, got called in for an interview, went through all the windows testing, shown OHS video etc. Approx 5-6 weeks later I was called regarding a *possible* 2 day temp assignment they had coming up the next week (Hours 11am - 5pm). However, they are "just waiting to hear back from the manager" and will contact me at the end of this week to confirm and give details.
Friday came and went but no phonecall from Manpower, nothing. The following Tues morning I was at my voluntary p/t job when they called me to give the details of the company I was to report to that day at 11am! I was like WTF? I explained to them I was expecting a phonecall the previous Friday confirming this so called assignment and as no one had bothered to call I thought it wasn't on. I also explained I was in casual clothing at my volunteer job and couldn't possibly make it across town to the assignment. The rather unproffessional rude male "consultant" pretty much cracked it with me and hung up in my ear. I never went near them again when looking for Jobs. icon_mad.gif

Good that they paid up when hearing of Fair Trading.
It’s also an indication that they don’t know anything about laws relating to employment, that are not Fair Trading’s patch.
Next time you need to terrorise a straggling employer … talk Union.

Issue type: Complaint

Never go with manpower in canberra as a temp.
they don't care about their temps.
I was temped out to a company called resolve fm.(I hadn't been informed that the boss her had already gone through 5 temps in a year from a different agency which then pulled thier contract with resolve because they werent happy with the way their temps were being treated) and man power had already sent 3 temps there in 3 months all of which left because they were unhappy with they way they were treated.
The temp role started out their fine the boss was really nice at first.
then the boss never staretd turning up and whne she did only turned up for a couple of hours.
Which left me sitting at my desk with no work to do as i didnt have a boss to ask for more work.
I was gettin annoyed with this and started looking for a new job.
I came back one day aftr going for a job interview to find a new girl doing ym work from the manpower in canberra. which i was informed that she was there to help me boss with her work.
this girl then continued to do my job while i sat at a desk and did nothing. i complain to Man power about this and they replied with the boss can choose what she gives you for work you dont like it then leave.
Which i did. and they didn't pay me for my last week of work until i said i would take them to the fair trading.
