Post subject: Heat issues and no help from TiVO
Organisation name: TIVO
Issue type: Complaint

I recently purchased a TiVO through Harvey Norman.
It has been working beautifully for me, recording everything I want when I want and playing back perfectly. Until recently.
The heat in the last couple of weeks appears to have affected the system. When the temperature in the room gets to just on 29 degrees, the TiVO goes off. Tries to reboot and then keeps looping through the same situation.
TiVO have sent me diagnotics queries, asking for this info and that info when the problem occurs. The problem as I have pointed out to them a number of times is that when it goes off I am no longer able to access the system information in order to give them the information they need. That is only available when the machine is working, and then it's quite normal.
So my next question to them was, where do I take it to get it fixed? The answer so far never gets beyond taking it to a supervisor who will think about escalating it.
Well TiVO guess what, I'm about to escalate it.
I have advised them that if I don't get a response in a reasonable amount of time I will take it to Fair Trading. I am fed up with this kind of rubbish from manufacturers.

Firstly, I must say I am extremely surprised that anyone is still buying this outdated and hobbled (by Channel 7) equipment which can only receive a few local FTA channels... but anyhow.. if you just purchased this recently you should take the device back to Harvey Norman and insist on a refund as the device is defective... they will just send it back to Tivo and get a refund themselves.

Depends how recent is "recently" whether it can go back to the store or if it goes to the manufacturer. Sometimes it's within 30 days sometimes less.

Like it or not that's the way it is.
