think about this one people... it does not matter whether you are male or female, if you choose to a "nude' photo shoot that means you have the freedom of choice which is probably the most endearing thing you can have in an over governed country such as Australia so don't put anyone down that chooses to use their freedom. |

I would just like to say that I am sure Jen Hawkins did this shoot for what she thought were the right reasons. But I can see how this could look to young women who are already struggling with poor body image. If someone can look that good without air brushing etc what hope is there for the rest of us.
Needless to say I was relieved t see Ricki Lee in this weeks Womans Day as she is more realistic. It is so important to send a positive message to young women about being healthy and liking themselves for who they are rather than trying to conform to an ideal that isn't real. The average Australian woman is a size 14 - 16 and most men will tell you that they love curves over bones any day. |

Well this topic got underneath my radar!
Firstly, the media have put pressure on the average woman or girl (and to a lesser extent, men) to aspire to look like a perfect 10. This has been going on for over 30 years, the pressure increasing over the last 5 years or so. They are responsible for creating pyschological problems for many, sometimes ending in disastrous consequences.
Secondly, Jennifer Hawkins is promoting a good cause with this photo shoot but, to me, she is just average looking. I could walk down the streets of Bundaberg (the unofficial obesity capital of Australia) and find half a dozen more appealing women. Remember, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but inner beauty is probably more important.
If a had a choice of who I would like to park their shoes under my bed, it wouldn't be the one who is on the cover of Marie Claire but the one who currently does so. |

CKHart, maths, and relevance, aren't your strong points.
I posted within a day of the initial post here. All your other comments including "7 straight days" were well after the fact. So, yes, you're quite right: nothing to see in your post. |

Yes everyone knows her intention was to portray a healthy lifestyle, nobody is attacking Jennifer's motives. |

And if people had read why she did it we wouldn't have this problem. It was nothing to do with portraying "the average woman". She even admits she is not the average body shape. It was about health and self-esteem and raising money for the Butterfly Foundation. They needed someone with celebrity to give the cover more impact.
Young girls and women are constantly saying that they don't even know what they're looking at any more, and what they want to see is more real, untouched and natural photos of celebrities and people in magazines. OK physically she might not be your idea of an "average woman" but it was "untouched and natural".
Apparently that magazine and others have invited other celebrities to bare all and they got few if any other takers. She is damned if she did and damned if she didn't.
I would be happy to see pictures of people of all sizes and shapes. |

I think the point was not so much a role model but she was held up as the average woman which she is not. Beautiful absolutely, average? No way. |

I see too that singer Ricki-Lee Coulter has posed in swimsuits for Woman's Day and she looks stunning.
Ricki-Lee, Bianca and Jen, you all look great. |

OK I think you all need to just get over it. Jenifer Hawkins did it I think at least for the right reasons. So JH unairbrushed is better looking than many people who may have had a lot of photoshop work done on them. Is that her fault? Stop whinging about the fact. She is beautiful but far from perfect. To my eyes she is too thin but that is a personal preference.
Bianca Dye recently posed nude in response and I think she too is beautiful and frankly more to my tastes. Some would see her as being "fat" (hardly).
Why can't any woman of any shape or size be a role model? She doesn't have to be really curvy to make a point about body image. Obviously Bianca is reasonably comfortable with herself as is JH and I say "good on them both". Give Jen a break. |

manfredh - not much controversy, 'ey?
Seven straight days of newspaper coverage, plus two journalists - one female, one male - inspired to get naked and have their bodies published in full living colour for all to see.
No. You're right. Nothing to see here. |

I bought it and read it. I always do. I considered boycotting this issue but then I would have been uninformed and not entitled to an opinion. |

Rude people are neccessary on this forum, because too many users post opinions on things they are ill-informed about, for example commentary on an issue of Marie Claire that it seems they have not read. |
