Post subject: Asphalt laying
Organisation name: Tarmac Constructions
Issue type: Comment

I recently had the displeasure of having Neale Dennis of Tarmac Constructions (Edgeworth NSW) complete a job on my property. When initially quoting he was a complete gentleman, and indeed he did quote a good price for the work required. (25% less than another). He was given the Ok to start and his men commenced the work (The job entailed about 200 metres of asphalt, 3 metres wide, built over an existing well compacted gravel driveway. There is a number of bends and some intersections to garages etc) After his men had spent a few days doing prep work he asked for his deposit. I saw no problem in giving him the deposit he asked, 50% of the total (8000 dollars, half the job total of 16000) After paying him all work ceased for a period of a month. I rang him many times. Got fobbed off a lot. One time he hung up in my ear He promised to return calls many times but never did. At this stage I had only recieved some basic earthworks, probably only about $1000 in prep work. The job was finally completed after I threatened to complain to Fair Trading Dept. The quality of the work was pretty ordinary in the end. Had to ride them to give them what I wanted. If you consider dealing with this person only pay reasonable progress payments. If considering this person for a similar job I would strongly recommend arranging close supervision by someone well versed in road construction. I personally would never deal with them again. (Forgot to mention his bobcat with canvas showing in the tyres. Surprise Surprise, Got Pucture. NO SPARE. Turned up two days later with flat spare. Had to sweep by hand as Bobcat out of action. Very unprofessional. Be wary!
