Not only big W sell them, Kmart, FDB, mitre 10, to name a few, in my case the tap fitting broke because i left it on the tap in winter and it cracked because of the frost, now i don't leave it on the tap it last a long time, they're also better then the plastic ones, and they sell from around $6.00 at FDB's and $14.00 or there about at other stores.

Their excuse about the supplier telling them it's brass is lame. This sort of attitude of all profits happily accepted but none of the responsibility is disgusting and needs to be addressed. I agree, try the ACCC.

Why don't you report your findings to the ACCC, they can be fined for false/misleading advertising...

Post subject: Brass hose fittings not really brass
Organisation name: Patio by Jamie Durie
Issue type: Complaint

I have purchased Brass Hose Sets from Big W that claim on the pack and other advertising that they are made from brass. I now find that the main component is made from anodized aluminium and coloured to look like brass. When I complained to Big W I was told that their Hong Kong supplier has stated that they are 100% brass. I still have the product as evidence even though Big W was very eager to get them back from me. Someone is covering up somewhere. It has now been about 12 days and the same product is still sitting on the shelf being sold as brass to unsuspecting customers. You could ask how I am sure that they are aluminium and not brass. The answer is simply that I have been working in the Metal Finishing Industry for over 40 years and have professional qualications to be able to know.
This is false advertising luring customers to buy cheaper, inferior products that will fail prematurely.
Shame on you Big W and Woolworths.
Shame on Jamie Durie for being a part of the sham.
